An endless summer

Four months! Four months without a single drop of rain—or almost none. That is the sad reality of the summer of 2026. A seemingly endless season that began far too early—around mid-May—during which there were no fewer than five heat waves, each marked by temperatures exceeding 35°C, or even 40°C.

As September draws to a close, the ambient air temperature is still flirting with 30°C. But more importantly, the drought persists. The deciduous trees look yellowed and sparse. In turn, the evergreen trees are withering away before our worried eyes.

How much longer will the flora and fauna have to wait before these few clouds, driven by the wind, gather, thicken, and finally give rise to life-saving showers?
