Aerial ballet

Every summer day,
they perform a similar ballet,
motivated by the search for insects.

At the beginning of autumn,
their choreography spread to the entire community,
already heading to more hospitable distant lands (*).

For a few hours,
their shrill little cries composed a moving symphony
whose movements set the rhythm of their choreography.

(*) It seems that the town of Revel—more generally, the foothills of the Montagne Noire—lies on the migratory route of barn swallows and house martins nesting in the more northerly regions.

Exhibition

This photograph was published as a double-page spread in the 23rd issue of the independent media outlet « Le Zéphyr » dedicated to participatory science—in particular, to those who regularly count the plant and/or animal species that inhabit a given territory and contribute to their monitoring over time. As a member of the LPO (League for the Protection of Birds, official representative of BirdLife International in France), I participate every year in the census of swallow and swift nests in Revel.
