Saissac over the centuries

In this area delimited by the wooded foothills of the Montagne Noire, there was once a medieval castle, the oldest of them, one of the largest as well: the Château de Saissac - named after one of its famous owners, Bertran de Saissac (1140 - 1202), the protector of the troubadours and of the « perfect » Cathars.

Eleven centuries after its completion, this area which subtly blends the mineral with the plant still offers a magnificent view of the Pyrenees chain - of the Pic de Bugarach, in particular.
